  • Google Docs, Gmail to Get AI Functionality

Posted by Nick on May 3, 2023 at 10:17 am

Generative AI is coming to Google programs and apps!

I just received a notification on Google to sign up for the waiting list for “Labs”, which is Google’s beta test group for everything they’re doing around generative AI. To start, this includes:

    1. Writing assistance in Google Docs
    2. Gmail functionality

As an example, Google Docs will give you a prompt that says “Help me write…” You simply fill in the blanks, and Google will generate a draft for you to begin working with.

For Gmail, the AI can turn meeting notes into an email OR you can have AI rewrite your email to make it more appropriate for the circumstance.

This is the first BIG push from Google, but I expect more functionality, and more tools to be added to this generative AI initiative in the future.

If you have a Google Workspace account, you can join the waiting list for Labs by going here:
