Bing Chat: The Power of Microsoft’s AI Chatbot & GPT-4 Integration

ChatGPT’s lack of internet connectivity has been a sore spot for many. However, that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. Integrated with the Bing search engine and powered by OpenAI’s  GPT-4 model, Bing Chat gives you all the internet searching capabilities you need for effective research.

In the post, we’ll be discussing how you can access Bing Chat, and start using some of it’s powerful tools.

Understanding Bing Chat

What is Bing Chat?

Bing Chat, also known as “New Bing,” is an advanced AI chatbot integrated with Microsoft’s search engine, Bing. Built on OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, Bing Chat is designed to provide users with a more interactive and efficient way to search for information. By leveraging the power of this AI technology, Bing Chat offers personalized, context-aware responses to your searches, making for a much more engaging and informative experience.

How Does Bing Chat Compare to ChatGPT?

While Bing Chat shares its foundation with ChatGPT, Microsoft has customized it to focus on search-specific functionality. Unlike ChatGPT, Bing Chat is based on OpenAI’s latest large language model, GPT-4, which is only available to users through the paid ChatGPT “Plus” subscription.

One bonus to Bing Chat is it’s ability to cite sources and references to the information it finds. This is something that ChatGPT is currently not capable of doing, and has frustrated many ChatGPT-specific users.

In addition to its text-based capabilities, Bing Chat can also generate images and create tables, among other fun little tricks, offering a more versatile and feature-rich experience.

Changing the Way We Think About Search Engines

Microsoft is attempting to completely revolutionize how we search online. Rather than typing in a few keywords and having a search engine produce various websites to fit your needs, Bing Chat allows you to have entire conversations, backed by the mass amounts of data Bing has collected.

What makes Bing Chat so different, is that almost every response is cited or provides additional references where you can perform further research and investigation. This is something ChatGPT is not capable of right now, and quite frankly, even Google doesn’t do as nice of a job with it’s own Bard chatbot.

Utilization of GPT-4, the Latest LLM by OpenAI

Unlike the free version of ChatGPT, Bing Chat leverages the power of GPT-4, OpenAI’s latest large language model. This is what allows Bing Chat to deliver on additional functionality such as text-to-image generation. With GPT-4 at its core, Bing Chat can generate human-like responses to prompts, understand complex queries, and provide more accurate and relevant information.

How to Use Bing Chat

Accessing Bing Chat on Different Platforms

  1. Desktop (Microsoft Edge): To use Bing Chat on desktop, simply visit using Microsoft Edge. Note: Bing Chat does not currently work in the Google Chrome browser. To access the functionality on desktop, you will need to download Microsoft Edge.

Choosing a Conversation Style

Before you begin chatting, you’ll have to choose a conversation style:

  • More Creative: Provides longer, more descriptive, and imaginative answers. This is also what you should select if you’re wanting Bing Chat to generate images from your text. This will not work in the other two conversation styles.
  • More Balanced: Delivers informative and friendly responses, balancing the other styles.
  • More Precise: Offers shorter, straightforward search-focused answers.

Before you start interacting with Bing Chat, select your desired conversation style to tailor the chatbot’s responses to your needs.

Tips for Effectively Interacting with Bing Chat

To make the most of your Bing Chat experience, consider these helpful tips:

  1. Be clear and concise: Frame your searches clearly to help Bing Chat understand your intent and provide relevant information.
  2. Provide context: If your search relates to a specific topic, include this additional context in your prompt.
  3. Use follow-up prompts: Like ChatGPT, Bing Chat remembers the context of your conversation. Dig deeper into a topic by using follow-up prompts or questions to obtain better results.
  4. Rate responses: Provide feedback on Bing Chat’s answers by giving a thumbs up or thumbs down. This helps improve the chatbot’s performance over time.
  5. Experiment with conversation styles: Test out different conversation styles for different types of searches to see what best suits your specific needs.

Bing Chat Features and Advantages

Generating Images with Bing Chat

Something that was teased by OpenAI during the announcement of GPT-4, and one of the standout features of Bing Chat is its ability to generate images. This allows users to generate images and artwork directly within the chatbot.

Right now this feature only allows for the creation of new images, not editing or modifying images you already have.

We Have Sources & Citations – Finally!

We brought up earlier in the post, but worth another mention. If you’re searching for answers on Bing Chat, you’ll receive a response in typical chatbot fashion. Yet, when you hover over Bing’s answers, you’ll notice that different sources are cited within the response.

Bing Chat search results about best practices for exporting podcast audio with citations to the sources.

Additionally, Bing will include these sources at the bottom of it’s answers, where you can quickly jump directly to the source of the information.

We’ve had many people ask us why ChatGPT’s sources and citations don’t work, or are glaringly incorrect, and that’s because ChatGPT is not connected to the internet. If you’re doing deep research into a topic, Bing Chat is where you should be doing this, NOT ChatGPT.

Bing Chat is a powerful AI chatbot that leverages cutting-edge technology to offer users a new seamless and interactive search experience. With its unique features, customization for search-focused tasks, and transparency, it stands out among the AI chatbot competition. As AI continues to evolve and shape the way we interact with technology, Bing Chat is well-positioned to be a frontrunner in this space.
